Privacy & cookies

Rooted (be-rooted.app) is run by Antoine Mace. We are the data controller for the personal data described here. For any privacy question or request, email contact@be-rooted.app.

• Contributor waitlist. When you join the waitlist we store your email address and anything else you choose to give: your name, area, whether you're a resident or a business, and how you heard about us. We use it to manage the waitlist and invite you to contribute. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
• News and updates. Only if you tick the box, we email you occasional Rooted news. We record when you agreed. Lawful basis: consent, which you can withdraw at any time with the unsubscribe link in any email or by emailing us.
• Contributor accounts. If you're invited, we hold your email address, your login details and the listings you manage, so you can sign in and publish them. Lawful basis: contract.
• Your location. If you allow it, your browser shares your approximate position so we can show places near you. It's sent with each search and isn't saved to your profile or our database. You can refuse and still browse the map. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
• Technical data. Like any website, our hosting providers log IP addresses and request details to keep the service secure and working. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views; it uses no cookies and doesn't identify you. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.

We don't sell your data, use it for advertising, or make automated decisions about you.

• Supabase: database, logins and image storage, hosted in the UK/EU.
• Vercel: website hosting and analytics. Vercel is a US company, so some data may be processed in the US, protected by the UK–US data bridge or the UK's standard contractual safeguards.
• OpenFreeMap: provides the map tiles. Your browser fetches them directly, so OpenFreeMap sees your IP address.

• Waitlist details: until you ask us to delete them, or 12 months after we last contact you.
• Newsletter consent: until you unsubscribe. After that we only keep what we need to stop emailing you.
• Contributor accounts: while your account is open, and up to 30 days after you close it.
• Hosting logs: for the short periods set by our providers.

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Email contact@be-rooted.app and we'll reply within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

We only use storage the site needs to work, so we don't ask for consent and there's no cookie banner. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.

If we change how we use your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
